Artist Statement
Ates's practice is shaped around the axis of human, non-human, nature and memory. Inspired by chance encounters, oral histories and her own experiences, Ates produces her works with the belief that nothing that has happened on earth and in the universe at any time will ever disappear, with an effort to resist decay, oblivion and extinction. Tracing the recollections, the contacts, the meaning and what is kept in mind with an interdisciplinary approach and making the hidden knowledge visible constitute the main axis of the artist's practice and it extends to various media as required by the topics she explores.
